Meals on Wheels originated in London during WWII when women, volunteers and the Red Cross served meals to the elderly who had been bombed out.
In the USA the first MOW originated in Philadelphia in 1954.
Butler Meals on Wheels was established November 17, 1969 when Lutheran churches and volunteers saw a need for meals. The program began with 13 clients and was housed in Luther Hall at First English Lutheran Church.
