COVID-19 UPDATE (5/17/21)
Starting Monday, May 17, 2021 all staff members and volunteers that are fully vaccinated for covid-19 do not have to wear a mask when entering the Meals on Wheels site. Those not fully vaccinated are asked to still wear a mask in the building and if having any contact with the clients. We are placing the clients’ meal in a cooler at their door and knocking on the door to alert them it has arrived. This will continue until further notice to keep our clients as well as our volunteers safe.
Thank you Erie Insurance- Erie Branch for supporting our Meals on Wheels program!
Butler Meals on Wheels is very happy to receive a grant from Erie Insurance – Erie Branch to purchase coolers for the meal deliveries to our clients. The first shipment has arrived and we have started sending them out this week! This will be a great help with the delivery of meals for the winter, keeping the sturdy cooler in place on the porch and the meals protected from the snow and ice.
Our Daily Story
Meals are prepared in the kitchen of St. Peter’s Anglican Church in downtown Butler. For a small charge each client receives two meals (one hot & one cold) which are delivered Monday thru Friday, except Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Each day, at about 11am, 24 volunteers go out in pairs (a driver and a deliverer) on 12 routes and deliver a hot, fresh meal and a bag lunch for supper for over 100 clients. The delivery provides a personal outreach to our neighbors on a daily basis. This keeps us alerted to any significant changes in their situation which may need to be attended to by family or medical personnel.
We are able to do this for three reasons:
(1)The generosity of the Butler community who support us financially
(2) The many volunteers who come together every day to help prepare, package and deliver the meals (using their own cars)
(3) The dedication of our small paid staff
Our Mission Statement
The purpose of Butler Meals on Wheels Inc. is to provide excellent, nutritious, home-delivered meals to individuals in need within the service area comprising Butler city and its surrounding area. The meals are provided to maintain adequate nutrition for those recuperating from illness and suffering from impaired functional ability. Butler Meals on Wheels strives to maintain clients in their homes for as long as possible to prevent them from being institutionalized.
